– MOBIL 1 Products on Allocation –

SPECIAL NEWS BULLETIN - IMPORTANT

           According to the October 15 edition of Jobbers World Online News Brief, selected ExxonMobil synthetic products have been put on allocation effective October 1, 2008.    The announcement explained, “ExxonMobil marketers (and direct served customers) were advised that allocation of Mobil 1 lubricants will take effect October 1 as a result of Hurricane Ike causing significant disruptions to supply lines to ExxonMobil Chemical’s (EMC) Beaumont, TX plant.” They went on to state, “According to marketers, the allocation is expected to last several months and impact availability of most Mobil 1 lubricants.  Allocations are said to range from 15% to 100% based on lubricant type and package.”  The article also implied that if you went to a local store and looked at the retail shelves at lunch time today, you might find the lubricant section slightly less stocked than normal already. 

This announcement will most likely result in a great deal of existing Mobil 1 lubricant customers searching for replacement products to use due to the pending availability issues.  All AMSOIL Dealers will need to be prepared to address this potential for increased demand.  While AMSOIL INC is confident that we have secured enough raw material supplies to support our normal sales patterns plus growth, we want to insure that a massive increase in demand does not cause raw material and product shortages for you and your existing AMSOIL customers later this calendar year.    

To make sure your current customers have enough supply, inform them of the potential impact this allocation could have on them and potentially on the demand for AMSOIL products.  Insure they are sufficiently stocked up as early as possible.  Then, as new customers approach you looking for something to replace their Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, direct those new customers toward our AMSOIL XL line of motor oils as replacement.  Why XL?  Because those customers were already using a synthetic oil with no extended drain intervals, so the XL product is more in line with what they were using, and because the XL line of motor oils is our most cost competitive motor oil.  And finally, and even more importantly, we do not have supply issues for the ingredients of this formulation that would limit our ability to provide as much oil as you could possibly sell.  

For those customers who were using the Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oils that allow up to a 15,000 mile drain interval, conversion to our ASM, ASL and ATM product line is the appropriate direction.  We have enough inventory to meet short term demand for some growth, although extreme growth would also put AMSOIL into an allocation situation later this calendar year as well.  Should this occur, it is our policy to take care of existing customers first before accepting new customers. Again, the XL line of products would be the back-up and available in larger quantities to fill the void if necessary.

AMSOIL DEALERS, there will never be a greater opportunity to gain market share from a competitor than you will have for the remainder of this year.  We are counting on you to hit the pavement, notify current customers of the allocation and pending implications, and gather all of the new customers you possibly can.  There is always a silver lining to any situation, and we have just been provided with one.  Now is the time to act.
